Women should stay away from dressing completely in red since it has overt sexual connotations unless this is their intention. Wearing all pink is too romantic for the first meeting. If you like the sophistication of black, navy, dark brown or dark grey reconsider your thoughts for this occasion. They are daunting and not friendly. A colour which is medium to light is friendly and attractive.
Men should not dress in neutrals. Add some colour. This way you are adding zest. No one wants to be involved with a neutral person. If the first time you go out you are in casual clothes, it is easy to wear a blue, burgundy or some other coloured shirt. If you are wearing a suit, add some colour interest in the tie. Women like patterned ties, so choose a tie with colours in it which complement the jacket and one which is contemporary. Looking up-to-date shows your friend you are a modern man, not one who lives in the past.
