HOW TO CHOOSE AIR FILTER IF YOU ARE NOT CHEMICALLY SENSITIVE
If you are not sensitive to chemicals, you will not be concerned with the need for an activated carbon or HEPA filter, or with the materials from which the device is made. You can make a choice based more on cost and convenience. Ionisers are the cheapest option, but they have a decidedly mixed performance record and they do cause dirt to adhere to walls and ceilings. Borrow one or use one on trial before purchase.
If money is less of a constraint, the middle range of filter plus ioniser devices are effective for the job or removing allergens – for instance, the Trion Electrion, the NSA 1200A, the Medivac F400 and Mountain Breeze F400.
The top price range of activated carbon and HEPA filters are generally more powerful and have much finer fabric webs to trap smaller particles, so are more effective. They will do a better job – but you may not need to go to that expense and that degree of filtering unless you are exceptionally sensitive to particle allergens.
For a large room, such as an office or workroom, only the largest filters have the capacity to change the air thoroughly – the Enviracaire, the Filtaire 600S and the NSA 7100A.
If portability is an important criterion, then the Trion Electrion, the NSA 1200A, the Medivac F400 and the Mountain Breeze F400 are light and very portable. Of the filters that are more effective at removing chemicals, the Biotech 500 is the most portable.
If you need a filter for medical reasons, you should not have to pay VAT. The supplier will give you a form to complete or ask you to sign a declaration. Ionisers are not exempt from VAT.
