WHAT SHOULD MEN WEAR ON FIRST DATE?
What you wear on this first date depends on where you are going. Think it through. Visualise what most people at the venue would be wearing. A good tip is to dress the same level as the other people around you or one level above. Women are tremendously impressed by men who understand colour coordination. If you have difficulty with this, ask a friend for help.
Women very rarely tell you when you have made a mess with colours, they store the knowledge away and hope to see an improvement next time, or come to the conclusion you may well be poorly coordinated in other areas of your personal life too.
Ensure the colours blend and don’t compete. When in doubt, choose the safest path and have variations of a colour theme, for example blues, from pale through to dark. Grey trousers or jacket go well with black with a vibrant colour added for interest. This is another option which may suit you. For ideas on colour combinations look in a few menswear shop windows or fashion magazines.
The more structured your choice of clothing, the more business-like you will appear. Depending on the circumstances, it may be appropriate to soften your business look by wearing a coloured shirt. The world loves men in blue shirts with a suit. Add a bright tie or one with a bigger and bolder pattern than normal. Your tie choice expresses your personality more than any other business clothing choice. Enjoy either a repeated geometric pattern, which will give the appearance of structure, or curves in the pattern which suggests you are creative. Medium colours work well too.
Only wear a T-shirt if you are meeting very casually. A collared knit shirt or polo shirt works much better. The collar lifts you from very casual to smarter casual.
Wear a sweater only if the circumstances seem appropriate. The rule of thumb is, if the surroundings are casual, a sweater is fine. If the surroundings are more formal or you want to impress, a jacket is better. If you want to hide your heavy stomach, never wear a sweater. It clings too closely.
